Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Do I need to empty the drawers in dressers?
No, if they contain lightweight items, such as clothing, you can leave these in the dressers.
Q. Can you pack and move me on the same day?
It depends on the amount of packing that needs to be done. If there is a significant amount of packing, it should be
done prior to the day you move. That way you will be ready to go when we arrive. Our estimators can advise you on all
the various aspects of the move to ensure you are fully prepared. This will save you time, and money.
Q. When is it a good idea to have an extra man or men on the move?
Unusually large or heavy items, more complicated access, long walks, or elevators would be good situations
for extra
help. For example, if there is an elevator at both locations and three movers, two men can keep moving items out to the truck
while the third wraps and loads everything on the truck. This way one man is not waiting around to carry a large item while
the other is occupied. Obviously a very large move would require extra men to ensure the move is performed in a reasonable
time.
Q. Do I have to unload my file cabinets?
Upright letter and legal size file cabinets do not have to be unloaded. Anything fragile or breakable
should be removed, but
papers and files can remain. Again, do not tape the drawers closed. When the file cabinets are placed on a moving dolly, the
drawers are secured.
Lateral file cabinets should be unloaded because of their design. Lateral file cabinets can easily be
bent and distorted if
they are moved with any significant weight in them. (A lateral file cabinet is one which is wider than it is tall).
NB: Keys are important as they can easily get lost. It is a good idea for you to keep all your file
cabinet keys together and
bring them with you.
Q. I'm working out-of-town and can't be home again before moving day. Will The Moving Connection pack
my belongings?
Absolutely. Our professional packers will carefully box your belongings and place the appropriate plastic
coverings on your
furniture in preparation for moving day. Ask our estimators to include this service when you call.

Tips
- Please don't pack turpentine, paints, pressurized cans, corrosive items, or any flammable liquids for us to move. It
is against regulations to carry flammables that can cause a fire or damage.
-
A uniformity in the boxes helps with speedier moving. Should you need to, you can buy moving boxes from us. We can
help you choose the sizes and kind you'll need. Our boxes are specially designed for packing household goods.
-
Wrap fragile articles using two layers of white wrap per glass, dish, figurine, etc. Wrap firmly but loosely enough
to provide a cushioning effect. White paper is available from us. It is best not to use newspaper when packing fine or
delicate china/glass, as the ink has a tendency to run onto and stain your china or crystal.
-
Don't overload boxes. Pack boxes so articles cushion each other. The top of the box should be closed and taped. Use
appropriate boxes for items, in particular books, which need to be in smaller, more compact boxes. (See our moving supplies
page for more information) Pack clothing in our special wardrobe containers. Clothes will hang straight, stay clean and
wrinkle-free.
-
Books should be packed in small, strong, securely tied cartons. They should be placed cover to cover, alternating
bindings to prevent the pages from becoming interlocked and damaged. Wrap valuable books individually. DO NOT pack books in
furniture drawers or leave them in portable book drawers or leave them in portable bookshelves or bookcases.
-
Pack glassware standing on end, upside down. Dishes are better stacked on the edge. Pad out empty spaces with wadded
paper. Dish towels can also help pad glassware.
-
Pack mirrors and pictures in the special carton designed for them.
-
Pack room by room and label each box. Labeling the boxes with the contents and room to be placed in will help movers
to identify where to place them upon arrival.
